    His life

Bill Gates is the second of three children of wealthy lawyer William H. Gates, Sr. and teacher Mary Maxwell Gates. He excelled in mathematics and science in elementary school and then, at the age of 13, attended the prestigious private Lakeside School in Seattle. It was there that his interest in technical devices and their programming began.

He began his studies in 1973 at Harvard University, where he met his future business partner Steve Ballmer and developed the BASIC interpreter for the Altair 8800 home computer. This was later adapted and further developed for other home computers as Microsoft BASIC. In 1975, Gates finally dropped out of college to concentrate fully on his company, Microsoft Corporation. His first major coup came a few years later when he delivered the MS-DOS operating system to IBM. After many years of successfully managing and building the company, he handed over the position of CEO to his long-time friend Steve Ballmer in 2000 and has served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Chief Developer ever since. In 2008, Gates finally withdrew completely from day-to-day management at Microsoft and founded a new company called bgC3. Bill Gates is one of the richest people in the world. According to estimates by Forbes Magazine, he topped the list a total of 15 times between 1994 and 2014. In 2022, his estimated net worth was approximately $110 billion. Gates has received numerous honors for his extraordinary achievements. These include an honorary doctorate from Harvard University in 2007, an appointment as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005, the award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2016, and recognition as an Old Friend of the Chinese People by the Chinese Communist Party.
