Early life and education
Li Lu was born in Tangshan, China, in 1966. A survivor of the 1976 earthquake, he initially studied physics at Nanjing University, then switched to economics. In 1989, he made a name for himself as a student leader in the Tiananmen Square protests.
Wedding on Tiananmen Square
In 1989, Li Lu symbolically married in Tiananmen Square. The ceremony, marked by solidarity and resistance, became a bright spot amidst political unrest. The wedding was intended not only to symbolize personal happiness but also to serve as an act of resistance against traditional restrictions.
Himalaya Capital Management
At the age of 23, he fled China for the United States. After graduating from Columbia University in 1996, Li Lu founded Himalaya Capital Management in 1997.
